Former First Lady of Benue State and Founder of the Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF), Her Excellency Chief Dr. Mrs. Eunice Ortom, has once again taken a bold step in championing women’s political representation. She presented signatures, endorsements, and memoranda in support of the Special Seats for Women Bill during the national public hearing held at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja. The event was presided over by the Deputy Senate President, Rt. Hon. Barau Jibrin, and brought together women representatives from all 36 states of the federation.

Dr. Ortom, who represented the North Central region, has long been recognized as a leading voice in the campaign for women’s inclusion in governance. During her tenure as First Lady of Benue State, she helped achieve a landmark breakthrough when nine out of 23 local government chairmanships were occupied by women for the first time in over four decades.

Beyond politics, her foundation, ESLF, has been instrumental in driving initiatives that empower women, uplift young people, strengthen healthcare, and expand opportunities in agriculture. These efforts reflect her wider vision of building resilient communities where women and youth are active participants in decision-making and development.

Her unwavering dedication has earned her recognition at home and abroad, including the Leadership and Excellence Award at an international women’s conference in Kigali, Rwanda. At the Abuja hearing, her message was clear: Nigeria must create deliberate structures that guarantee women equal access to leadership, ensuring that their voices shape the nation’s future.
