Senator Benson Agadaga, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Oil and Gas Host Communities, has officially inaugurated a series of transformative projects funded through the 3% Host Communities Development Trust allocation under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) in the Obagi Host Communities.

The event, held at Ogbogu Community, saw the participation of Rivers State Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Odu, representatives from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), various International Oil Companies (IOCs), and members of the National Assembly.

Senator Agadaga praised the projects as a testament to the vision and dedication of lawmakers who championed the Petroleum Industry Bill until it became law. He highlighted the role of the PIA in fostering peace and stability in Nigeria’s oil-producing regions while boosting national crude oil output to nearly two million barrels per day.

Congratulating the Obagi Host Communities Development Trust, Senator Agadaga noted that it was the first among host communities across Nigeria’s nine oil-producing states to implement the PIA’s 3% allocation meaningfully. He urged other host communities to activate their projects promptly, warning that sanctions would apply to those that fail to do so.

Emphasizing the importance of harmonious relations between host communities and oil companies, the Senator noted that sustained cooperation attracts more investments and people-centered initiatives.

Key projects inaugurated include: the Ogbogu Secondary School, Ogbogu Cottage Hospital, Ogbogu Civic Center, Amah Water Factory and Bottled Water Company, Community Secondary Schools (North and South) in Akabuka, Oboburu Internal Road, and a Cooking Gas Plant in Erema Community.

These initiatives are set to enhance education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic opportunities in the host communities, reflecting the tangible benefits of the PIA.
