Women in Rivers State, under the umbrella of Rivers Women Unite for SIM (RWUS), have hailed the reinstatement of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his Deputy Prof. Ngozi Odu, and members of the State House of Assembly as the beginning of a new era of peace, reconciliation, and democracy.
Clad in green, the women gathered at the Ecumenical Center in Port Harcourt on Thursday for a thanksgiving service, before embarking on a peaceful procession through the streets to celebrate the lifting of the six-month state of emergency imposed by President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement signed by Mrs. Ebele Ngelale and Comrade Glory Sunday, the women expressed gratitude to the President, political leaders, and the people of Rivers for their role in restoring democracy. They described the march as a demonstration of collective thanks and solidarity, celebrating the return of their governor, deputy, and assembly members.
The women declared what they called “God’s covenant of rest on all sides” for Rivers State, promising to maintain an altar of prayer for genuine reconciliation, peace, and prosperity. Participants from all 23 local government areas joined the march, filling the streets with chants of hope, unity, and renewal.
The event concluded with a declaration that Rivers State has entered a “glorious new dawn,” bringing peace, progress, and fresh opportunities for its citizens.
