Bauchi State has taken a major step towards improving education quality and promoting self-reliance by commencing local production of exercise books and chalk for distribution to public schools across the state.
The initiative was unveiled on Friday during an inspection of the production facility at the Bauchi State Education Resource Centre (ERC) by the State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Muhammed Lawal.
Speaking on the development, Commissioner Lawal highlighted that the programme not only ensures the availability of essential school materials but also introduces rebranded textbooks with enhanced quality and appeal. He described the local production as a strategic effort to reduce dependence on external vendors, many of whom supply substandard materials.
“Today marks a significant milestone as exercise books are now being produced locally in Bauchi State under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and with the full support of His Excellency, Governor Bala Mohammed,” Lawal said. “There is no need to import these items. By producing them in-house, we are cutting out unqualified contractors and ensuring our students receive quality educational materials.”
The Commissioner further emphasized the broader vision of the project, noting that once local demand is met, production may be scaled up to serve other states and explore potential export opportunities, creating additional revenue streams for the state.
Also commending the efforts, the Director of the Education Resource Centre, Mr. Kabiru Ahmed, praised the staff for their dedication and commitment to advancing the government’s education reform agenda.
The launch of the locally produced educational materials underscores Bauchi State’s commitment to enhancing learning resources, supporting self-reliance, and driving economic growth through innovative local solutions.
