Ogun State is set to commence local commercial flight operations at the Gateway International Airport (GWI) starting October 7, 2025.

The announcement was made in a press release signed by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun. According to the statement, Value Jet, a private commercial airline, has finalized arrangements with GWI management to operate passenger flights from the state to Abuja.

The airline is scheduled to operate two flights per week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, marking a major milestone for the state’s aviation sector.

The commencement of operations follows the approval of the state-of-the-art airport by relevant regulatory agencies, opening new opportunities for business, tourism, and regional connectivity.

Gateway International Airport, located in Ogun State, is a modern aviation facility designed to handle both passenger and cargo traffic. Equipped with a 3-kilometre runway, advanced navigation systems, and passenger amenities, the airport aims to serve as a key hub for domestic flights and regional air transport.

Officials believe that GWI will not only boost economic activities in Ogun State but also enhance trade, tourism, and investment opportunities in the South-West region of Nigeria. The airport is also expected to ease travel congestion in Lagos and its environs, providing a strategic alternative for both business and leisure travelers.

The launch of commercial flights at GWI underscores Ogun State’s commitment to infrastructure development, economic growth, and regional integration, positioning it as a pivotal transport and logistics hub in Nigeria.
