A 60-year-old American woman, identified as Jacqueline Bolling Elton, has died in Otokutu, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, while visiting a male acquaintance.

According to information shared by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the deceased arrived in Nigeria on September 15, 2025, through Warri, where she was received by 39-year-old Alawode Olaide, a resident of Otokutu.

Reports indicate that on Monday, September 29, at about 3:00 p.m., Elton developed sudden health complications while staying at Olaide’s residence. She was first rushed to a private health facility in the community before being transferred to the Central Hospital in Warri. Unfortunately, medical personnel at the hospital confirmed her dead on arrival.

Law enforcement agencies were promptly notified. Police officers visited the residence, examined the circumstances, and detained Olaide for questioning to clarify the events that led to her sudden death. The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Central Hospital morgue, awaiting autopsy. Authorities say the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a full probe.

The incident has sparked discussions among locals and social media users. Some have called for fairness in the ongoing investigation, pointing out that Nigerians who pass away abroad are often not linked to companions or friends they visited, suggesting that Olaide should not be prematurely judged. Others have expressed concerns about how the report was framed, especially regarding the frequent mention of Warri when Otokutu is a distinct community within Udu LGA.

Social commentators from Delta State also lamented the region’s image, arguing that negative news seems to dominate reports from Warri and its surrounding areas. Comparisons were drawn with other Nigerian states where ethnic and cultural groups coexist with fewer violent reports, raising broader concerns about insecurity, mistrust, and social vices in Delta Central.

Despite the controversies, the case has highlighted deeper conversations about safety, health, and the responsibilities of hosts when receiving foreign visitors. The police have urged members of the public to remain calm and allow due process to unfold, assuring that the autopsy and investigation will determine the true cause of Elton’s death.

For now, the focus remains on awaiting medical findings that will clarify whether her passing was linked to natural health complications or other external factors.
