The Movement for the Emancipation of Nigerians (MEN) has expressed deep concern over the alarming deterioration of security in Kwara State, where kidnappings, rapes, and the displacement of communities have become increasingly frequent. The organization described the situation as particularly troubling given Kwara’s historical record as a peaceful state.

MEN also condemned reports that youths who staged peaceful protests against violent criminals were arrested by security operatives, allegedly at the behest of some traditional rulers. The group commended the courage and resilience of these young Nigerians, noting that their actions have drawn national attention to a crisis that has already inflicted trauma on several northern communities.

The organization criticized security agencies for their apparent inability to combat terrorism effectively, highlighting the irony of swift crackdowns on unarmed citizens while armed criminal networks continue to operate with impunity. This scenario, MEN argued, underscores the urgent need for the establishment of state police to address insecurity sustainably.

In its statement, MEN called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to deploy troops immediately to Kwara and other affected states, while also urging the unconditional release of youths arrested for peacefully protesting insecurity. The group further advocated for constitutional amendments to provide for state, local, and community policing, as well as the responsible right for citizens to bear arms for self-defense.

MEN emphasized that the protection of lives and property remains the fundamental responsibility of government. It warned that the continued failure of the federal government to act decisively cannot be justified by excuses, asserting that Nigerians deserve safety, security, and tangible action.

The statement concluded with a firm declaration that enough is enough, reiterating the need for immediate and decisive measures to restore peace across Kwara and other affected regions.
