The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has strongly condemned the abduction of Isyaku M. Danjuma, Esq., a member of the NBA Birnin Kebbi Branch, who was kidnapped in the early hours of October 1, 2025, near Ibeto town in Magama Local Government Area, Niger State.
In a statement released by NBA President Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, the association described the incident as a painful reminder of the worsening insecurity across Nigeria, stressing that no citizen is truly safe on highways, in homes, or at workplaces.
Mr. Danjuma, the NBA emphasized, is not only a lawyer but also a husband, father, son, and citizen whose constitutional rights to life, liberty, and dignity have been violated. The association called his abduction a direct affront to the rule of law and a stark reflection of the unchecked rise of criminality in the country.
The NBA is demanding the immediate and unconditional release of Mr. Danjuma. It called on the Federal Government, Niger State Government, and all relevant security agencies to coordinate urgent rescue efforts and ensure that the perpetrators are identified, arrested, and prosecuted in line with the law.
“This incident underscores the failure of our security architecture to protect Nigerians from the menace of kidnapping, which has become a national crisis,” the NBA said. It added that if lawyers—who are sworn to uphold the law—can be abducted with impunity, ordinary citizens are left even more vulnerable.
The NBA pledged to monitor the situation closely and continue advocating for accountability from those responsible for protecting lives and property in Nigeria. It further affirmed that no nation can thrive when its citizens live in constant fear of abduction or violence.
The association also expressed solidarity with Mr. Danjuma’s family, the Birnin Kebbi Branch, and the wider Bar community, praying for the safe and swift release of the abducted lawyer.
The incident has reignited calls for stronger security measures, particularly along highways and rural communities, to stem the rising tide of kidnappings and ensure that citizens can exercise their rights without fear.
