His Excellency, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Executive Governor of Lagos State, has marked a historic milestone as Lagos becomes the first African city to host the E1 Electric Powerboat Race, known as the E1 Lagos GP. The event positions the city alongside global powerhouses like Monaco, London, and Venice on the prestigious E1 racing calendar.
Governor Sanwo-Olu described the occasion as a reflection of Lagos’ commitment to clean energy, innovation, and the creation of opportunities for the state’s youth. He emphasised that the race aligns with the city’s long-term vision for a sustainable blue economy and serves as a platform to showcase Nigeria’s potential on the global stage.
The Governor also expressed gratitude to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his goodwill message, noting the President’s recognition of Nigeria’s dedication to sustainability and environmental responsibility. Sanwo-Olu further highlighted that hosting the E1 Lagos GP demonstrates Lagos’ boldness, resilience, and readiness to compete internationally in innovation, technology, and entertainment.
The successful hosting of the race is expected to boost tourism, create new economic opportunities, and inspire further investments in the state’s marine and renewable energy sectors.
