The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Sokoto Operations Office, has extended its assessment of communities affected by recent floods and rainstorm incidents in Zamfara State. The exercise follows earlier evaluations conducted across several local government areas, as the agency seeks to determine the extent of damage and coordinate relief efforts.

The assessment team visited additional impacted areas in Zurmi, Kaura-Namoda, and Tsafe Local Government Areas. Communities surveyed included Birnin Tsaba, Dauran, and Kanwa in Zurmi LGA; Sarkin Baura and Dawa Kawa in Kaura-Namoda LGA; and Kofar Fada and Zango in Tsafe LGA. While some of these locations were accessible, officials noted that prevailing insecurity in parts of the state has hindered access to certain areas.

The floods were triggered by late-season rainfall, accompanied by heavy storms and strong winds, a pattern typical at the close of the rainy season. Preliminary reports indicate significant damage to residential structures, farmlands, and household properties, leaving several residents displaced. Some affected families have undertaken temporary repairs, while others have sought refuge with relatives or host communities.

NEMA confirmed its ongoing collaboration with the Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency (ZEMA) and local authorities to ensure that affected communities receive timely humanitarian assistance. The agency emphasized the need for coordinated interventions to prevent further hardships among displaced populations.
