The National Officers’ Committee (NOC) of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), led by President Dr. Mohammad Usman Suleiman, has confirmed the full payment of nine months’ arrears owed to House Officers, alongside their September salaries. This marks a significant milestone in the ongoing effort to improve the welfare of medical trainees across federal health institutions.
The payment addresses one of NARD’s key demands to the Federal Government, which included the immediate inclusion of Medical and Dental House Officers in the civil service scheme, regularization of salaries, and the issuance of pay slips. Just last month, House Officers’ salaries were adjusted in line with the CONMESS Circular, ensuring compliance with entitlement guidelines.
Dr. Suleiman described the payment as a victory for collective advocacy and unity, noting that it includes House Officers who have completed their postings. He expressed gratitude to Prof. Bala Audu, President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), for his unwavering support, and acknowledged the immediate past NOC, led by Dr. Osundara Zenith Tope, for laying the groundwork for this achievement.
The current NOC urged House Officers to remain diligent, focused, and committed to duty, and encouraged them to reach out to the NARD leadership whenever necessary. Looking ahead, the association announced that the payment of 25–35% CONMESS arrears and Accoutrement Allowances is the next priority.
This milestone reinforces confidence in NARD’s leadership and underscores the power of unity and persistent advocacy in achieving tangible improvements for medical professionals in Nigeria.
