Mrs. Haruna, the wife of the late Nigerian Army officer, Lieutenant Samson Haruna, has publicly spoken for the first time following the tragic death of her husband, who reportedly died from severe burns sustained during a domestic fire incident.

In an audio message circulating on social media, the grieving wife refuted allegations that she intentionally set her husband ablaze. She described the incident as a “terrible accident,” insisting that she never planned or carried out any act of violence against him.

According to her account, the incident occurred on September 22, after a series of domestic disputes allegedly influenced by family interference.

“He came and drove me off from work. His elder brother told him to move his things to another room to frustrate me,” she said in the recording. “The new room he moved into was used as a store that contained fuel and other materials. While packing, he mistakenly hit the fuel container, and it splashed across the room.”

Mrs. Haruna further alleged that her late husband had a history of domestic violence, claiming that she had suffered multiple assaults, including a miscarriage.

“He had been beating me on several occasions. He even threatened to set me ablaze if my parents didn’t come to take me away,” she recounted. “When he said that again, I called the Commanding Officer three times to report the situation, but he didn’t answer.”

She maintained that the fire that led to her husband’s fatal injuries was accidental.

“He picked the lighter, thinking it wasn’t working. He said, ‘I’m going to set you ablaze,’ not knowing the lighter was functioning. That was how the fire started,” she said tearfully.

Mrs. Haruna also claimed that despite her husband’s critical condition, he reportedly pleaded with military personnel to allow her access to him at the hospital, allegedly telling them she was innocent.

“Even in the hospital, he begged them to let me see him and said I should forgive him. He told them I didn’t do anything wrong,” she added. “But they locked me up for several days and denied me access to my phone.”

The Nigerian Army has yet to issue an official statement regarding the new claims made by Mrs. Haruna. However, the case continues to attract public attention and emotional reactions across social media platforms, as Nigerians call for a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident.

Lieutenant Haruna’s death remains under military and police review, with authorities expected to release further findings in due course.
