Through her verified X social media account, activist Aisha Yesufu called on Nigerians to acknowledge their role in the integrity of elections, stressing that the nation’s problems do not lie with institutions like INEC, the judiciary, the police, or the military, but with the people within them. She described Nigerians as “220 colluding people,” emphasizing that electoral rigging cannot occur without public participation or consent.
Yesufu urged citizens to actively engage in the electoral process, defend their votes, and ensure every vote counts, warning that merely casting a ballot without safeguarding it is tantamount to “paper painting.” She highlighted that those working within key institutions are often family members, neighbors, colleagues, and community members, and called for mutual accountability to prevent collusion and protect democracy.
