The Abia State Police Command has successfully rescued eight infants and ten children from suspected traffickers and arrested ten individuals allegedly involved in conspiracy and child-stealing across Aba and surrounding areas.
The investigation began after a complaint on September 27, 2025, when a woman from Abakaliki, Ebonyi State reported that she was lured to Aba by a man under the pretext of marriage. Upon leaving to buy food for her children, she returned to find both the man and her children missing. Despite her efforts to locate them, the man could not be traced.
Acting on actionable intelligence, the Command carried out a raid on October 8, 2025, at a residence where stolen children were believed to be kept. Officers apprehended five suspects and recovered one infant and seven children. A subsequent operation on October 9, 2025, along Aba/Owerri Road led to the arrest of four more suspects and the rescue of seven infants and three children. On October 10, 2025, another suspect was apprehended, and one more child was recovered. The investigation continues at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
The Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding the lives of residents and combating crime in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police. He urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant, supervise their children closely, and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the Command’s emergency hotlines.
The Police have advised members of the public in search of missing children to visit the Gender Section of SCID, Abia State Command, or contact the OC Gender for assistance. CP Isa emphasized that public cooperation is vital in ensuring a safe and secure environment for all residents.
