Troops Rescue Two Kidnap Victims After Gunfight in Efagi, Kwara

Troops of 2 Division / Sector 3 — Operation FANSAN YAMMA rescued two people abducted from their home in Efagi village, Lafiagi, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, after a swift and determined response in the early hours of Friday, October 10, 2025. Soldiers stationed at the Lafiagi patrol base received word of the abduction and, working alongside a local vigilante group, moved quickly to the area. The joint team tracked the kidnappers, engaged them in a firefight and forced the criminals to abandon the victims and flee into the surrounding bush.

During the clash one soldier and a vigilante member were shot; both were evacuated immediately for medical treatment. The rescued victims were reunited with their families while troops continued to search and secure the area to prevent the bandits’ return.

Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, praised the troops for their professionalism and bravery, reaffirming the brigade’s commitment to sustained operations against criminal elements. He urged residents to keep providing timely, actionable intelligence to security agencies to bolster ongoing efforts to restore stability in the area.
