The Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Nigeria’s creative sector with the official launch of the Ananse Center for Design Lagos, a transformative initiative aimed at reshaping the nation’s fashion industry and empowering thousands of young talents, particularly women.

The project, developed by Ananse Africa in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, is designed to serve as a major hub for innovation, skills development, and entrepreneurship in the fashion and design ecosystem. The Centre will train over 5,000 emerging creatives and is projected to create access to 50,000 job opportunities across the sector, supporting Nigeria’s broader creative economy agenda.

Speaking at the launch, representatives of the Ministry described the collaboration as a reflection of the government’s drive to promote public-private partnerships that foster inclusivity, skill acquisition, and global competitiveness. The Ministry further revealed plans to expand the initiative across Nigeria’s regions through the National Executive Council and other sustainable funding channels.

The establishment of the Ananse Center for Design is expected to catalyse economic growth, nurture creative innovation, and position Nigeria as a leading hub for fashion and design in Africa. By offering training, mentorship, and access to essential tools, the Centre aims to equip a new generation of designers with the capacity to build sustainable livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s creative economy.
