The Nigerian Army has announced significant success in its sustained counter-terrorism campaign under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), with troops neutralizing several Boko Haram fighters and rescuing abducted civilians during coordinated operations across Borno State on October 10–11, 2025.
Acting on credible intelligence, troops launched a fighting patrol around Goni Dunari in Magumeri Local Government Area (LGA), after reports indicated that Boko Haram insurgents were attacking residents and setting homes ablaze. The terrorists, who were moving in two vehicles with about 24 fighters on foot, attempted to escape toward Damjiyakiri village as troops advanced.
Following a four-hour pursuit covering nearly 92 kilometers, the soldiers engaged the fleeing insurgents in a fierce firefight, killing five terrorists while others retreated with gunshot wounds. Recovered items included an AK-47 rifle, several magazines, 31 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a mobile phone, and a dagger. Notably, the troops reported no casualties or equipment losses during the operation.
In a related encounter along the Gajiram–Bolori–Mile 40–Gajiganna axis, troops conducting a motorcycle patrol confronted another group of Boko Haram fighters near Zundur village. In the ensuing gun battle, four terrorists were neutralized, while others fled into nearby forests. The troops also rescued two abducted men, identified as Mr. Modu Kinnami (55) and Mr. Bukar (57), both residents of Guzamala.
Recovered from the scene were a blue pickup vehicle (Reg No: GUB 327 XA), two new Tecno phones, 30 litres of petrol, and ₦4,355,000 in cash. Preliminary findings revealed that the terrorists had earlier demanded a ₦2 million ransom and mobile phones for the release of another victim’s brother.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North East (OPHK), Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, confirmed the developments, commending the troops’ professionalism and resilience. He emphasized that operations remain ongoing to eliminate remaining terrorist elements and prevent them from regrouping.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to restoring lasting peace across the North East, urging citizens to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to support ongoing military efforts.
