The State Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) Committee convened a strategic meeting at the conference hall of the Gombe State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (GSPHCDA) as part of ongoing preparations for the Measles-Rubella Vaccine Introduction Campaign, scheduled to commence on October 17, 2025.

In his opening address, the Executive Secretary of GSPHCDA, Dr. Abdulrahman Shuaibu, stated that the meeting was both timely and crucial in ensuring a smooth and safe implementation of the upcoming immunisation campaign. He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to maintaining strict safety standards and promoting accurate vaccine data management across the state.

The meeting, chaired by Dr. Shuaibu, brought together key figures in the state’s health sector, including the Case Management Pillar Lead, the State Epidemiologist, relevant directors, programme officers, and representatives from development partners such as the World Health Organization (WHO), Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), and New Incentive.

Central to the discussions was the issue of ensuring the accuracy and integrity of immunisation data across the eleven Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state. Stakeholders exchanged views on enhancing real-time reporting mechanisms, improving AEFI surveillance, and strengthening coordination between local and state health authorities to guarantee swift responses to any reported vaccine-related incidents.

Participants also emphasised the need for continuous training of healthcare workers on data management and AEFI reporting to build public confidence in vaccination programmes. Partners present pledged continued support to Gombe State’s health initiatives to ensure a successful and safe Measles-Rubella campaign.

The GSPHCDA reiterated its dedication to safeguarding the health of every child through effective immunisation coverage and proactive management of adverse events. With preparations in top gear, officials expressed optimism that this campaign will record high participation and strengthen the state’s public health outcomes.
