As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery, the Kano State Executive Council has approved N233 million for the procurement of advanced laboratory equipment for the newly remodelled Quality Control Laboratory at the Drug and Medical Consumables Supply Agency (DMCSA).

This strategic investment aims to enhance the agency’s capacity to ensure the safety, efficacy, and quality of all drugs and medical consumables distributed within the state. With the upgraded equipment, DMCSA will be able to conduct comprehensive laboratory analyses and meet both national and international standards in pharmaceutical quality control.

The announcement was made by Director-General of DMCSA, Pharm. Gali Sule, during a Quarterly Review Meeting held on Monday at the agency’s conference hall. Pharm. Sule highlighted that the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to safeguarding public health and ensuring only high-quality drugs are available in healthcare facilities.

“This approval underscores the commitment of Kano State government to the health of Kano citizens by guaranteeing the availability of safe and effective medical products,” Pharm. Sule stated.

He added that once the equipment is procured and installed, personnel will receive specialised training to operate the modern analytical and diagnostic tools, which are crucial for testing medical supplies.

Pharm. Sule also noted that, thanks to reforms and initiatives at DMCSA, the agency has now been accredited as an internship training centre by the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, further cementing its role in capacity building.

Opening the review meeting, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, emphasized that the laboratory upgrade aligns with Kano State Government’s broader agenda to improve healthcare infrastructure, develop local capacity, and ensure accountability in the medical supply chain. He reassured residents that the government remains dedicated to providing a safe, healthy, and sustainable environment for all.
