President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria following their impressive 4–0 triumph over the Cheetahs of Benin Republic, applauding the team for restoring national pride and keeping alive the country’s World Cup qualification hopes.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President lauded the Super Eagles for their passion, hunger, and determination during the thrilling encounter in Uyo, noting that their performance had rekindled the collective football spirit across the nation.
“While the job is not yet complete, I join millions of Nigerian football fans in wishing our team every success in the playoffs,” President Tinubu said.
He expressed optimism that the team’s renewed momentum reflects a shared belief among Nigerians that the country rightfully deserves a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to sports development, the President assured the players and coaching staff of continued Federal Government support as they push toward qualification.
“As your President, I assure you and the coaching crew of the Federal Government's support as you strive to secure your place at the tournament. Nigerians everywhere believe in you, and I do too,” Tinubu added.
He concluded by expressing confidence that the Super Eagles would fly Nigeria’s flag proudly on the world stage, inspiring unity and national pride through their performance.
