Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has renewed his call for dialogue with bandits, urging the Nigerian government to consider making peace with them, similar to the ceasefire arrangements between the United States, Israel, and Hamas.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Monday, Sheikh Gumi referenced a ceasefire agreement previously brokered between Israel and Hamas under the administration of former U.S. President Donald Trump, arguing that negotiation remains a viable path to peace.
“Peace between Israel and Hamas, who they call terrorists, was brokered by the USA. Who said there can be no peace with terrorists?” Gumi wrote.
He further urged Nigerian authorities to adopt a dialogue-based approach with bandits in order to restore security and stability across the country.
“Let the government make peace with bandits, and let us have peace,” the cleric added.
Sheikh Gumi has consistently advocated for amnesty and dialogue with armed groups operating in northern Nigeria, arguing that Islam encourages peace even with groups perceived as adversaries. His views have often stirred public debate over the best approach to addressing the nation’s security challenges.
