Nigeria Engages IMF on Economic Reforms and Outlook at 2025 Annual Meetings

Nigeria’s delegation to the 2025 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank has met with Mr. Abebe Aemro Selassie, Director of the IMF’s African Department, to discuss the nation’s recent macroeconomic trends, reform agenda, and medium-term economic outlook.

The delegation was led by Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), alongside the Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite. The discussions highlighted ongoing efforts by the Nigerian government to stabilize the economy through structural reforms, fiscal consolidation, and measures aimed at boosting investor confidence.

Also in attendance were Dr. Mohammed Abdullahi, CBN Deputy Governor (Economic Policy); Mrs. Sanyade Okoli, Special Adviser to the President on Finance and the Economy; Mrs. Lydia Jafiya, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Finance; and Mrs. Patience Oniha, Director-General of the Debt Management Office (DMO), among other senior officials.

The meeting underscored Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening macroeconomic stability, improving transparency, and driving sustainable growth through evidence-based fiscal and monetary coordination.
