The Bayelsa State Government has called on the business community to actively support efforts aimed at curbing the circulation of fake and adulterated products within and beyond the state. The appeal was made by Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, during a courtesy visit from the Bayelsa Mega Entrepreneurs Forum at the Government House, Yenagoa.

Describing entrepreneurs as the backbone of the state’s economy, Senator Ewhrudjakpo emphasized their crucial role in ensuring that products distributed to consumers are safe and authentic. He encouraged business leaders to comply with tax obligations while assuring that government would address concerns such as multiple taxation affecting enterprises in the state.

Highlighting government priorities, the Deputy Governor stressed that security and power supply remain central to business and economic development. He noted the administration’s ongoing investments in strengthening the state’s security architecture to safeguard lives and property, which is essential for a conducive business environment.

On power, Ewhrudjakpo assured entrepreneurs that the government is working tirelessly to meet the December deadline for full operation of the new gas turbine plant, which is expected to provide reliable electricity and reduce the high cost of doing business caused by diesel dependency.

The Deputy Governor also urged entrepreneurs to expand their businesses to rural areas, promoting balanced economic growth across the state rather than concentrating solely in the capital city. He highlighted the government’s commitment to the upcoming Bayelsa Mega Entrepreneurship Summit, promising full support to ensure the event’s success.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo said, “It is good to see that you have come together to form a group. Your coming together will do a lot of good for our state. You are a pillar to the economy of Bayelsa State. Every good government should create an enabling environment for entrepreneurs to thrive. We have improved our security architecture and are working to stabilize power. We also need your support in fighting the proliferation of fake goods being sold in Bayelsa.”

Earlier, Technical Adviser to the Governor on Entrepreneurship Development, Mrs. Charity Kens-Godwin, explained that the visit provided entrepreneurs an opportunity to engage directly with government officials. She applauded the Deputy Governor’s proactive stance on issues affecting businesses, including taxation concerns.

Speaking on behalf of the private sector, CEO of Ayalla Hotels, Chief Ayalla Robert Enogha, commended the government for acquiring gas turbines to stabilize electricity supply, noting that high diesel costs previously strained business operations. He also appealed for further government intervention on multiple taxation and levies on truck drivers, which indirectly raise costs for consumers.

The visit reinforced the state’s commitment to entrepreneurship development, improved business conditions, and consumer protection, while fostering stronger collaboration between government and the private sector in Bayelsa.
