The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has cautioned the public against fraudulent social media accounts falsely using the name and image of its Chief Executive, Engineer Gbenga Komolafe.
In a statement released by the Commission, the NUPRC clarified that Engineer Komolafe has no social media presence whatsoever — not on X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok.
The Commission warned that these fake accounts are being operated by fraudsters seeking to deceive or defraud unsuspecting members of the public, and urged everyone to refrain from engaging with or responding to such handles.
“For the sake of clarity, the Commission Chief Executive has no social media accounts. Members of the public are therefore advised against interacting with such pages in order to avoid being defrauded,” the statement read.
The NUPRC emphasized that all authentic information, statistics, and updates about its operations are available only on its verified communication channels and official website — www.nuprc.gov.ng.
“The public is enjoined to be wary of the antics of impersonators while efforts are being made to bring fraudsters to book,” the Commission stated.
The statement, signed by Eniola Akinkuotu, Head of Media and Strategic Communication, reiterated the Commission’s commitment to transparency and warned the public to stay alert and verify sources before engaging online.
