In a bold and strategic move to salvage Nigeria’s struggling tertiary education system, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), under the leadership of Comrade Joe Ajaero, has brought together all unions across the country’s higher institutions under a single platform of unity and coordinated action.

The landmark meeting, presided over by the NLC President, united academic and non-academic unions from universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. The objective was to harmonize their demands, address shared challenges, and develop a collective strategy to compel the Federal Government to act decisively.

At the heart of the discussions was an urgent demand for the government to honour and fully implement existing Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) signed with the unions. The NLC stressed that Nigeria’s education sector can only thrive when education is treated as a public right, not a privilege reserved for a few.

The Congress reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to ensuring that tertiary institutions receive the support, funding, and policy attention necessary to restore excellence, equity, and stability in Nigeria’s education system.
