Amnesty International has raised serious concerns over reports of attempts to suppress peaceful protests in Abuja calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu. The human rights organization demands that those arrested be released immediately and stresses that citizens must be allowed to freely exercise their right to peaceful protest.

The rights group warned that any action undermining freedom of assembly is illegal and reflects an intolerant stance toward peaceful dissent.

Amnesty International further reminded Nigerian authorities of their obligations under both national law and international human rights treaties, including the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which Nigeria is a signatory.

The organization called on security agencies to respect and facilitate the rights to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and association, urging the government to demonstrate genuine commitment to upholding constitutional and international human rights obligations.
