The event, which formed part of Dangote’s Sustainability 2025 Week themed “Sustainable Progress: Celebrating Growth and Partnership,” featured the enrollment of eight women from the Ajomo-Ikosi community into vocational training at the Kosofe Skill Acquisition Centre. Each participant also received start-up packs to support their businesses and strengthen self-employment opportunities.
Mrs. Onigbanjo praised Dangote Cement Plc for its consistent partnership with the Lagos State Government, describing it as a model for corporate social responsibility and a testament to the Sanwo-Olu administration’s THEMES Plus Agenda, which emphasizes inclusive economic empowerment.
“This partnership reflects the Sanwo-Olu administration’s unwavering dedication to empowering Lagos residents, particularly women and young people in grassroots communities. By equipping them with employable skills and the necessary tools to thrive, we are building a future where no one is left behind,” she said.
Speaking on behalf of Dangote Industries Limited, Dr. Oyekemi Oyelola, Deputy Head of Sustainability, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to advancing corporate responsibility initiatives that enhance livelihoods, promote sustainability, and strengthen local communities.
She was accompanied by Mr. Wakeed Olayinka, Group Head, Social Performance; Dr. Adeyemi Adun, Group Environment and Sustainability Lead; and Dr. Isaac Ekere, Decarbonization Manager. Dr. Oyelola also highlighted the importance of proper waste management practices, urging communities to adopt responsible disposal methods for plastics and recyclables to maintain a cleaner environment.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of start-up packs to the new trainees, symbolizing the beginning of their journey toward financial independence.
Representing the beneficiaries, Mr. Akinbi Adebowale David, Youth Leader of Ajomo-Omojuwa Estate, Kosofe, expressed heartfelt gratitude to WAPA and Dangote Cement, describing the initiative as a life-changing opportunity for grassroots women and youth.
The ceremony was attended by directors from the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, management staff of skill centres, Mrs. Paulina Oseagwuina, Principal of the Kosofe Skill Acquisition Centre, and representatives of Dangote Cement Plc, all of whom commended the partnership as a practical step toward achieving sustainable livelihoods and inclusive growth in Lagos State.
