Engineers who were previously dismissed by the Dangote Refinery during its dispute with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) have now been offered re-employment and redeployment to new project sites across several states in Nigeria.

The affected workers, including graduate trainees who were caught up in the earlier industrial crisis, have been issued fresh letters of engagement and instructed to resume duties within 14 days or risk forfeiting their new placements.

According to information obtained by Stone Reporters News, the reassigned engineers have been posted to various ongoing projects under the Dangote Group, including coal mining operations in Benue State, concrete road construction projects in Borno and Ebonyi, and rice processing facilities in Kebbi, Niger, Sokoto, and Zamfara.

One of the letters issued to a trainee engineer, as seen by The PUNCH, outlined the details of the redeployment, stating in part:

“Based on your performance at the assessment and subsequent interviews held with you, we are pleased to engage you as Engineer Trainee (Mechanical Engineering) for the coal project we are executing at Okpokwu, Benue State.”

The letter further explained that the engagement includes a two-year classroom and hands-on training programme, focusing on the construction, commissioning, and operation of the coal project. The trainees are required to submit periodic progress reports, with the goal of preparing them for leadership roles within the company.

It also specified that either party may terminate the engagement with one month’s notice or payment in lieu of notice.

The decision marks a fresh start for the affected engineers and reflects the Dangote Group’s efforts to reabsorb qualified personnel into other divisions of its expansive industrial operations, following months of labour tensions at the refinery.
