Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun, MFR, the Executive Governor of Ogun State, welcomed the Super Falcons of Nigeria at his Oke-Mosan office in Abeokuta ahead of their second-leg Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026 qualifier against the Amazons of Benin Republic.
In recognition of the team’s impressive performances and to boost their morale for the upcoming match, Governor Abiodun announced a support package of ₦50 million for the Super Falcons. He described their return to the MKO Abiola International Stadium as a testament to the state’s commitment to sports development and transformation.
The governor highlighted ongoing plans to upgrade the stadium into a world-class sports hub, featuring a five-star hotel, cinema, shopping complex, and other facilities aimed at positioning Abeokuta as a major sports and tourism destination.
Governor Abiodun commended the Super Falcons for their historic tenth WAFCON title in Morocco, emphasizing that the team’s achievements go beyond football. “They embody leadership, teamwork, and discipline. Through their example, millions of young women are learning that excellence knows no gender,” he said.
He assured the team of Ogun State Government’s unwavering support, expressing confidence that their continued success would inspire the next generation of athletes and leaders.
The governor reiterated that Ogun State stands firmly with the Super Falcons as they strive to make Nigeria proud on the international stage.
