Miss Chidinma Ojukwu, a former 300-level Mass Communication student at the University of Lagos, has told a Lagos High Court that she never discussed the death of Super TV CEO Michael Ataga with her co-defendant, Adedapo Quadri.
Ojukwu is standing trial alongside Quadri and a third defendant, Chioma Egbuchu, facing a nine-count charge filed by the Lagos State Government. While Ojukwu and Quadri face eight counts related to conspiracy, murder, and stabbing, Egbuchu is charged with stealing Ataga’s iPhone 7.
During cross-examination by Quadri’s counsel, Babatunde Busari, Ojukwu said her interactions with Quadri were strictly limited to transactions involving Loud (a form of cannabis) and Rohypnol, and that Quadri helped her produce her school ID card. She insisted that Quadri had no knowledge of her dealings with Ataga at the apartment and never visited the premises.
Ojukwu also explained her communication with Quadri only occurred when Ataga mentioned he had “one stick of Loud left,” and she admitted to police that she took an envelope home by mistake during the investigation at her residence in Yaba.
In addition, the court admitted letters tendered by Ojukwu, including one dated October 29, 2021, addressed to the Director of Public Prosecutions, as well as other letters to the Ministry of Justice, the Attorney-General of Lagos State, and the Inspector-General of Police.
Ojukwu also presented several items through her counsel, including an iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone X, and a 2019 MacBook Pro, stating that the iPhone 7 Plus belonged to her sister while the other devices were hers. She confirmed selling the MacBook to a vendor.
Justice Yetunde Adesanya adjourned the case to November 6 for the continuation of the trial.
The prosecution alleges that Ojukwu and Quadri conspired to murder Ataga on June 15, 2021, stabbing him multiple times at his Lekki Phase 1 residence.
