Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have intensified their security operations in Benue State, arresting three armed suspects during a routine patrol in Ohimini Local Government Area.
The suspects — John Isaac (22), Baba Emmanuel (17), and Sunday Thomas (19) — all residents of Otukpo Local Government Area, were intercepted by troops along the Otukpo–Enugu Road at the Amoda Axis.
Acting on credible intelligence, the soldiers carried out a search and discovered a locally made pistol, one cartridge, three mobile phones, and ₦20,200 in cash. Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects were on their way to carry out a criminal operation before their arrest.
Confirming the development, the Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, praised the troops for their vigilance and professionalism. He described the operation as a crucial step in preventing criminal attacks and ensuring the safety of residents in the region.
“Our troops have shown outstanding dedication and situational awareness. Their swift response continues to deter criminal elements and reassure our communities of safety,” General Gara stated.
He also urged the troops to sustain their momentum, intensify surveillance, and remain alert — particularly as the farming and harvest season often sees an uptick in rural crimes.
General Gara reaffirmed OPWS’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability across Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States, assuring residents that the Joint Task Force remains fully determined to safeguard lives and property.
The development was detailed in a statement signed by Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer of Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke, and circulated through the Nigerian Army’s official communication channels.
