The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a statement clarifying the events that led to the tragic death of Endurance Udeke, a resident of Periwinkle Estate, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, during a sting operation on November 4, 2025.

According to the EFCC, operatives were conducting a coordinated raid across apartments within the estate as part of an operation targeting suspected internet fraudsters. The Commission confirmed that four suspects were arrested without incident.

However, the EFCC explained that Udeke and another resident of apartment W6a, upon learning of the operation, attempted to flee by jumping from the fourth floor of their building. Udeke reportedly sustained fatal injuries despite immediate medical intervention, while the second resident survived after being treated and stabilized at a hospital.

The Commission stated that it promptly informed Udeke’s family of the circumstances surrounding his death, adding that the family acknowledged the efforts made to save his life.

“The Commission is shocked at the suicidal action of the deceased. There was no contact between officers of the Commission and the deceased before the unfortunate incident,” the EFCC said in its statement.

It further confirmed that the incident has been formally reported to the Police, who have since launched an investigation. The EFCC urged the public to remain calm and law-abiding, emphasizing that “no one with nothing to hide has reason to be afraid of EFCC sting operations.”
