Nigeria, UK Reaffirm Strong Ties as Foreign Affairs Minister Meets British Counterpart in London

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, OON, met with the British Foreign Secretary in London to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries. The high-level meeting, held at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), focused on key areas including trade, investment, security, education, migration, and climate action.

Ambassador Tuggar described the engagement as “constructive and forward-looking,” emphasizing that it reflects the long-standing friendship and shared democratic values guiding Nigeria–UK relations. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to deepening collaboration in ways that deliver tangible benefits to their citizens.

During the discussions, the ministers exchanged views on global and regional developments, explored new avenues for economic partnership, and reviewed ongoing cooperation in defence and governance. They also highlighted the importance of people-to-people ties and the role of the Nigerian diaspora in strengthening bilateral relations.

The meeting concluded with a commitment from both sides to maintain regular dialogue and follow up on agreed areas of cooperation. Ambassador Tuggar’s visit is part of Nigeria’s broader diplomatic outreach to advance mutual interests, promote sustainable development, and reinforce longstanding international partnerships.
