Serious allegations of human rights violations have placed the Imo State–based “Tiger Base” police facility under intense national and international scrutiny, following a forceful public warning issued by activist and human rights advocate Omoyele Sowore.

Sowore, who has been at the forefront of exposing abuses within Nigeria’s security institutions, described the situation at Tiger Base as “one of the most egregious patterns of police brutality we have seen since the return to democracy.” He warned that the scale of violations reportedly occurring at the facility rivals the darkest chapters in Nigeria’s policing history.

In a statement that has since ignited widespread public concern, Sowore cautioned that an upcoming investigative report could shake the country to its core. “Nigerians and the world will be shocked,” he said. “What is coming will make #EndSARS look like child’s play.”

According to Sowore and other rights monitors, Tiger Base has, over the years, been associated with allegations of torture, unlawful detention, enforced disappearances, and other abuses—claims that have long circulated but have never been fully exposed through a comprehensive public investigation. The anticipated report, he suggested, will shed unprecedented light on the depth and consistency of these alleged violations.

His comments have amplified the growing call for accountability, giving fresh momentum to the rising social campaign #TigerBaseMustFall, as Nigerians demand transparency from the authorities and an immediate overhaul of policing practices in the state.

As the country awaits the release of the report, Sowore stressed that the moment demands national attention. “This is not just about one police facility. It is a symptom of a deeper structural rot that must be confronted,” he asserted.

The mounting pressure places Tiger Base at the center of what could become one of Nigeria’s most consequential public reckonings on police misconduct and human rights protections.
