Adaora Soludo, daughter of Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has been appointed as the women’s leader of the City Boy Movement in Anambra State, acting media sources and group officials confirmed this week. The movement, a civic platform closely associated with support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Renewed Hope Agenda, has positioned the appointment as part of broader efforts to deepen grassroots engagement and mobilise support among women and other demographic segments ahead of future political activities.

According to a statement made available to journalists by Daniel Ezeigwe, a media aide to Governor Soludo, the appointment was officially validated by the Anambra State media director of the City Boy Movement and is understood to involve coordinating the women’s wing of the organisation within the state. Ezeigwe described the role as involving leadership, community outreach and support for the movement’s objectives, which include promoting democratic participation and civic engagement.

The City Boy Movement, founded in 2022 and linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has positioned itself not just as a political support group but as a platform focused on broad civic participation, national cohesion and issue-based dialogue, according to its public description. The group asserts that its membership encompasses a wide range of Nigerians — including traders, artisans, students, farmers, professionals, entrepreneurs and business leaders — united by what its leaders term a commitment to civic responsibility rather than socioeconomic status.

Stone Reporters note that the appointment of Adaora Soludo has generated significant attention in political circles because it aligns a member of a prominent southeastern political family with a movement widely seen as a vehicle for galvanising support for the federal government’s policy agenda in the region. Although her father leads the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), a regional party with a strong base in the South-East, the City Boy Movement’s national profile and connections to the federal administration have drawn commentary from political analysts regarding cross-party coordination and outreach.

The timing of Adaora’s appointment closely follows a high-profile visit to Governor Soludo by Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, who is recognised as the South-East leader of the City Boy Movement. Cubana and other executives of the movement reportedly met with the governor at the Government House in Awka just days before the leadership announcement. Proponents say this engagement underscores the movement’s intention to expand its footprint in the region, building support networks that reflect both political advocacy and broader civic mobilisation.

Supporters of the City Boy Movement describe the appointment as a strategic reinforcement of women’s representation within the organisation’s leadership ranks and an effort to channel female voices into issues of public policy and governance. The group has publicly rejected claims that it is elitist or exclusionary, instead framing itself as a people-driven initiative committed to national unity and inclusive participation. Critics, however, have expressed scepticism about the growing prominence of politically connected figures within support networks affiliated with the federal government, suggesting that these developments may blur the line between civic engagement and partisan mobilisation. Observers note that appointments involving family members of prominent political leaders often prompt debate over influence, political alignment and the relationship between regional power brokers and national political movements. These debates persist even as civic organisations emphasise their programmes focus on community empowerment, democratic engagement and policy awareness. (Africa Press English)

Stone Reporters note that, as of this moment, neither the City Boy Movement nor the Anambra State Government has released a formal public declaration detailing the full scope of Adaora Soludo’s responsibilities, expected tenure or planned initiatives in her role as women’s leader. Further details may emerge as the movement rolls out its planned programmes across Anambra State and beyond.
