In preparation for the upcoming Sallah celebrations, the Rivers State Police Command has put in place comprehensive security measures to ensure a safe, orderly, and incident-free environment for residents and visitors. The initiative is part of the command’s broader mandate to protect lives and property across the state.
The command has strategically deployed personnel and operational equipment at key locations, including Eid prayer grounds, busy markets, major motor parks, relaxation spots, and other public gathering areas. Security coverage has also been extended to critical infrastructure and locations identified as vulnerable to criminal activity, with the aim of preventing any disruption to public peace during the festive period.
Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju appealed to residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies throughout the celebrations. He urged the public to avoid reckless driving, unlawful gatherings, and any activity that could compromise public order. Parents and guardians were specifically encouraged to supervise their children and wards to ensure safety in crowded areas.
The commissioner emphasized that criminal behavior, including thuggery, cultism, armed robbery, or acts of violence, will not be tolerated. Offenders will be promptly arrested and prosecuted according to the law.
Residents have been advised to report suspicious activities or movements to the nearest police station or through designated emergency contact lines, including the Control Room at 0803 200 3514 and the Complaint Response Unit at 07057605209, 07057605256, 08120822987, and 07072323049.
The Rivers State Police Command reassured the public of its firm commitment to maintaining safety and security before, during, and after the Sallah festivities. The command also extended best wishes to Muslim faithful, praying for a joyful, peaceful, and fulfilling celebration.
