JIGAWA, Nigeria — A suspected thief has been arrested in Hadejia, Jigawa State, after allegedly targeting worshippers’ shoes during prayers inside a mosque, an act residents say may have been part of a repeated pattern of thefts over an extended period.
The suspect was reportedly apprehended on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at a mosque along Maje Road in Hadejia after being caught in the act by worshippers. Eyewitnesses said the arrest brought an end to what had become a growing concern among members of the local Muslim community, who had reportedly experienced repeated loss of footwear during prayer sessions.
