Abducted Nasarawa Varsity Students Regain Freedom as Police Arrest Two Suspected Kidnappers

The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced the safe release of the engineering students who were abducted from an off‑campus lodge in Gudi, Akwanga Local Government Area, while also confirming the arrest of two suspects linked to the kidnapping.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the command said the breakthrough followed “sustained intelligence‑led operations and coordinated tactical efforts” by its operatives. The two suspects were identified as Abdullahi Yeyi Haro, alleged leader of the kidnapping syndicate, and Basiru Abdullahi, both natives of the Gudi community in Nasarawa State.

The command also confirmed that the abducted students had regained their freedom and were reunited with their families. The victims are currently receiving medical attention and the necessary support following their ordeal.

Six students of the Faculty of Engineering at the university’s Gudi Campus, as well as a visitor who was at the lodge at the time of the attack, were abducted on the night of Wednesday, May 6, 2026, when armed men stormed the off‑campus residence. The police immediately launched a major search and rescue operation.

The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, commended the operatives for their professionalism, resilience, and unwavering commitment to public safety. He reiterated the command’s determination to rid the state of all forms of criminality, particularly kidnapping and other violent crimes.

The CP also assured members of the public that investigations were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate and to ensure that all those involved in the crime are brought to justice. The police expressed appreciation for the support and cooperation of the public, whose timely information and collaboration greatly contributed to the success of the operation. Citizens were encouraged to remain vigilant and continue to provide useful information to security agencies to aid proactive crime prevention and prompt response.
