Gunmen have abducted two persons along the Idi-Ayunre axis of the Ijebu-Ode road in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State on Tuesday.
The attack reportedly occurred while the victims were travelling towards Ijebu-Ode when armed men laid an ambush along the highway and forcefully whisked them away into nearby forest routes.
The incident comes just days after another abduction in Oyo State, where students and teachers were kidnapped in Oriire Local Government Area during a separate attack on educational facilities in the state, heightening concerns over rising insecurity along rural and inter-state routes.
According to available details, the attack took place within the Idi-Ayunre corridor, a known transit axis connecting parts of Ibadan to Ogun State and the Ijebu-Ode route, an area that has witnessed intermittent kidnapping incidents in recent times due to its proximity to forested routes often exploited by criminal groups.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said in a telephone conversation with journalists that the command was aware of the attack and had activated operational response measures aimed at tracking the suspects and rescuing the victims.
The police did not immediately disclose the identities of the abducted persons or confirm whether any ransom demand had been made at the time of reporting.
Security agencies in Oyo State have recently intensified patrols and surveillance operations along major highways and forest-adjacent routes following a series of kidnapping incidents across parts of the state, particularly in Oluyole and neighbouring local government areas.
The Ijebu-Ode road corridor remains a major interstate route linking Oyo and Ogun States, making it a frequent target for ambush-style attacks by armed groups operating in surrounding forest belts.
Authorities have urged residents and commuters to remain vigilant while assuring that efforts are ongoing to strengthen security presence along vulnerable routes and rescue abducted victims.
At the time of filing this report, there has been no further official update on the condition of the victims or the identities of the attackers.
