The Jigawa State Government has approved the indefinite suspension of five political appointees serving in the Auyo Local Government Council, effective immediately. The decision, announced on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, was contained in a press release issued by the Ministry for Local Government and Community Development and signed by its Public Relations Officer, Najib Umar.

The affected officials are Bala Energy, Supervisory Councillor; Abdullahi Usman, Supervisory Councillor; Afake Auyo, Special Adviser; Ussaini Biyuta Kataudi, Special Adviser; and Kande Auyo, Special Adviser. Although the statement did not provide an official reason for the suspension, it has been widely linked to ongoing political tensions in the state following the recently concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries.

The ministry directed all affected appointees to immediately hand over all government properties and responsibilities in their possession to the Director of Administration and General Services of the local government council. “All affected appointees are hereby directed to hand over all government properties and responsibilities in their possession with immediate effect,” Najib Umar said, stressing that compliance must be prompt.

The suspension comes on the heels of similar disciplinary actions by the Jigawa State APC, which on Monday, 1 June 2026, suspended a serving member of the House of Representatives, Ibrahim Usman Auyo, along with six other party officials over alleged anti-party activities. Reports indicate growing political tension in Jigawa, with several incumbent politicians losing their return tickets for the 2027 general elections.

For now, the five suspended Auyo council officials remain out of office indefinitely as the state government monitors developments ahead of the 2027 polls.
