In a strongly worded statement issued on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has rejected claims circulating in some quarters that its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has taken sides with any political party, campaigned for the government in power, or personally cancelled a planned protest against insecurity and economic hardship.

The church made its position known through a statement shared on its official X handle, where it declared that "the lies have gone on long enough" and that the church will no longer remain silent while false narratives about its leader are repeatedly presented as facts.

Addressing the swirling allegations, RCCG stated that Pastor Adeboye has consistently maintained a neutral stance on partisan politics and has never endorsed any political party or candidate. The church noted that the cleric has always encouraged members of the RCCG to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and exercise their civic rights by voting for candidates of their choice.

“Pastor E.A. Adeboye has always encouraged members of The Redeemed Christian Church of God to get their PVCs and vote for anyone of their choice. He has always maintained a neutral stance on political parties, as members of the Church are members of various political parties,” the statement emphasised.

The church further refuted claims that Adeboye personally called off a planned protest against insecurity and economic hardship. It clarified that the respected cleric merely communicated a directive from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) concerning adjustments to a three-day prayer programme.

“Pastor E.A. Adeboye only communicated the instruction of the Pentecostal Fellowship in Nigeria to members of the RCCG on the updated plan to have the grand finale of the Three-Day Prayer Programme in a centralised venue and hold a rally around the venue. This was communicated by PFN to all churches under PFN in Nigeria,” the church stated.

RCCG also pushed back against the accusation that the revered cleric has been silent on pressing national issues. According to the church, Pastor Adeboye has, on several occasions, spoken out on matters such as insecurity, corruption, economic hardship, elections, governance, and the need for righteous leadership. The church noted that the renowned preacher often chooses to engage these issues through moral guidance, prayer, and counsel rather than partisan political confrontation.

“The lies have gone on long enough. It stops now!!!” the church declared, adding that the public deserves truthful information and the church deserves fair representation.

The clarification comes just weeks after Adeboye commented on Nigeria’s political future during the May monthly Holy Ghost Service. Speaking about the 2027 presidential election, he told worshippers that the outcome was already known to God. “The one that will rule has been decided by God before we were born. He knows the end from the beginning,” Adeboye said, urging Christians to remain focused on prayer, evangelism and their personal responsibilities rather than being consumed by political debates.

As the 2027 election cycle gathers momentum, the RCCG’s unequivocal statement is seen as a critical attempt to maintain the church’s non‑partisan identity and to shield its revered leader from being drawn into the country’s increasingly polarised political landscape.
