MINNA, Nigeria – Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected terrorist informant during a targeted operation in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State. The arrest was confirmed in a post shared on X on Sunday by security analyst Zagazola Makama.

According to the post, the operation was carried out on June 4 by troops of the 221 Battalion following credible intelligence on individuals allegedly linked to terrorist activities in the area. The operation was conducted in Kara and Wawa communities, where the suspect was arrested based on his alleged involvement in supporting terrorist groups.

Military authorities alleged that the suspect served as an informant, providing information that could help terrorists plan movements and operations. He was said to have been on the watchlist of security agencies over alleged links with terrorists operating within the region.

The suspect is currently in military custody and is assisting investigators as inquiries continue into his alleged role.

The arrest is part of ongoing intelligence-led operations aimed at identifying and dismantling various support networks that enable terrorist organisations to operate within communities. The military has noted that tackling such networks remains crucial to ongoing counter-terrorism and counter-banditry efforts across the country, as informants often play a key role in facilitating attacks, movement of fighters, and covering up criminal activities.

Borgu Local Government Area, which shares a border with the Republic of Benin, has become a noted corridor for illicit movement of persons and logistics by terrorist and bandit groups. The successful operation highlights the military's resolve to degrade terrorist infrastructure not only through direct kinetic action but also by cutting off the flow of intelligence that sustains these groups.

As of the time of reporting, the identity of the suspect has not been officially released by military authorities pending the conclusion of preliminary investigations.
