A young woman, Ihunda Nkiruka Jennifer, who was abducted by suspected one‑chance operators in Port Harcourt, has been found dead. Her sister, Nurse Jane Ogbu, who had earlier gone online to appeal for help, confirmed the tragic discovery in an update on Friday, June 5, 2026.

According to reports from family members, Jennifer was kidnapped around the Rumuosi area of Port Harcourt. During the abduction, she managed to throw her bag out of the vehicle before the suspects sped away. Her family immediately launched a search, which eventually led them to a hospital around the Air Force Road area. There, they were directed to the mortuary at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), where Jennifer’s body had been deposited.

The family alleged that Jennifer was thrown from the moving vehicle around the Eliozu axis near Harmony Estate. She suffered fatal head injuries after being pushed out, and her body showed signs of having struggled with her attackers. “She fought hard, but they pushed her out while the car was moving,” a family source said.

The Rivers State Police Command has not yet issued an official statement on the incident. However, a police source confirmed that an investigation has been opened, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest the suspects. The family has called on the police to act swiftly, describing the killing as a brutal and senseless murder.

One‑chance robberies, where criminals posing as commercial drivers pick up unsuspecting passengers and rob or harm them, have become a persistent security challenge in Port Harcourt and other major Nigerian cities. Jennifer’s death adds to a growing list of victims of these criminal gangs.

Friends and colleagues have taken to social media to mourn her, describing her as a vibrant and kind‑hearted young woman. Her sister, Nurse Jane Ogbu, who had passionately begged the public for help just days earlier, wrote a heart‑breaking tribute: “I searched for you everywhere, only to find you in the mortuary. Rest in peace, my sister.”

As of Sunday, June 7, 2026, no arrests had been announced. Jennifer’s body remains at UPTH mortuary pending an autopsy and funeral arrangements. The family has appealed to anyone with information about the attackers to come forward.
