The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Musa Adamu, for allegedly attacking his girlfriend with a hammer, attempting to strangle her, and robbing her of N100,000 in the Riyal Quarters area of Gombe town.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. According to the statement, the suspect was arrested following a formal complaint lodged by the victim at the Pantami Divisional Police Headquarters.

The victim, whose identity has been withheld for her safety, reported that on the evening of Monday, June 8, 2026, Adamu visited her residence under the pretext of a friendly visit. An argument reportedly ensued, during which the suspect brought out a hammer and struck her repeatedly on her arms and shoulders. When she attempted to scream for help, Adamu allegedly grabbed her by the neck and attempted to strangle her.

After the brutal assault, the suspect allegedly searched her apartment and made off with N100,000 in cash, which the victim had saved from her small business. He then fled the scene.

Police operatives attached to the Pantami Division launched an investigation and tracked down the suspect to a hideout within Gombe metropolis. He was apprehended on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. DSP Abdullahi said the suspect has since confessed to the crime during interrogation. The hammer and a portion of the stolen money were recovered from him.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment and is said to be in stable condition. The police have urged residents, especially women, to be cautious about allowing acquaintances into their homes late at night and to report suspicious behaviour promptly.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Usman, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and subsequent prosecution. Adamu is currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
