Operatives of the Obalende Division of the Ogun State Police Command have foiled a carefully planned conspiracy to abduct a Chinese national and arrested two suspects who had demanded a ₦50 million ransom, police said on Thursday. The breakthrough followed credible intelligence received by the Divisional Police Officer about an imminent kidnapping plot along the Ijebu‑Ode/Odogbolu Expressway corridor.

Acting on the intelligence, the DPO mobilised operatives and the division’s surveillance team to the identified axis on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. The suspects were intercepted and arrested around 5:30 p.m., effectively disrupting the planned abduction. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects, Chinedu Onwuemena, 41, and Jimoh Ojo, 37, had jointly conspired to abduct a Chinese national working in the area and extort a ransom of ₦50,000,000.

Further findings showed that Onwuemena, who worked within the company environment as an interpreter and driver, allegedly exploited his position to facilitate the criminal plan. The police also established that the arrested suspects did not act alone but in concert with another accomplice who remains at large. Efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing suspect while discreet investigations continue to unravel the full extent of the criminal network behind the conspiracy.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for comprehensive and discreet investigation. The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism, vigilance, and swift response of the operatives of Obalende Division, noting that their proactive action prevented what could have resulted in a serious kidnapping incident.

CP Ojajuni also acknowledged the value of timely intelligence, which once again underscores the importance of community partnership in crime prevention and security management. He reassured residents and the business community that the Ogun State Police Command remains firmly committed to intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention, and the relentless pursuit of criminal elements threatening public peace and safety.

Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and continue to support the police by promptly reporting suspicious movements or activities through the command’s toll-free Gateway Shield number and other emergency lines.
