Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested four suspected members of a fraud syndicate, recovering 1,600 counterfeit United States dollar notes and military camouflage during an intelligence-led operation in Asaba, the state capital. The suspects were apprehended on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, following a surveillance operation targeting a five-man syndicate reportedly involved in defrauding unsuspecting members of the public using fake US currency.

According to a statement issued on Thursday, June 11, 2026, by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit commenced surveillance on the syndicate after receiving credible intelligence linking the group to fraudulent activities involving counterfeit US dollar bills. The suspects were reportedly operating in a red, unregistered Mercedes-Benz GLK SUV. The operation led to the arrest of four suspects identified as Joshua Nwaosa, Daniel Arhewe, Prince Chukwuma, and John Egwuba along Nnebisi Road in Asaba.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to operating from a hideout within Asaba. Acting on the information, police operatives raided the location and recovered 1,600 counterfeit US dollar notes as well as military camouflage clothing concealed within the premises. The police spokesman said investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the syndicate’s operations and identify other members still at large.

In a separate operation on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on actionable intelligence, stormed Owaliru and Alihame communities in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State, where two female suspects were apprehended. The suspects, identified as Ifeoma Egbule (36 years) and Anayeokwu Florence (51 years), were caught with substantial quantities of suspected illicit substances, including GH Gold, Colorado, cannabis and Canadian Loud. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were actively involved in the distribution of prohibited substances within the area. Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the drug distribution network.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their professionalism, diligence, and commitment to duty. He reiterated the command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Delta State.

The four suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged upon conclusion of investigations. The recovered counterfeit currency and military camouflage have been secured as exhibits.
