300-Level Federal University Birnin Kebbi Student Killed in Hostel Attack in Kebbi State

A 300-level Biochemistry student of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK), identified as Zaharadeen Nuhu, has been confirmed dead after being attacked at an off-campus hostel in Kalgo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.0

The incident occurred on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, according to information contained in a statement issued by the university management and reported by local media outlets.

The student was reportedly attacked at a private hostel in Kalgo by suspected thieves who invaded the accommodation during the incident. He sustained severe machete injuries during the attack.

He was immediately rushed to a medical facility for treatment but was later confirmed dead in the early hours of Thursday, 11 June 2026, as a result of the injuries sustained.

The university’s Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Ibrahim Magawata, confirmed the development in an official statement, describing the death as a tragic loss to the institution.

According to the university, the Nigeria Police Force has commenced an investigation into the attack, while security patrols have been intensified in Kalgo and surrounding areas where students reside off-campus.

Police authorities in Kebbi State have also been notified, and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack. However, details of arrests had not been disclosed at the time of reporting.

The university further stated that it is engaging relevant security agencies and hostel operators in the area to improve safety measures for students living outside the main campus.

The death has raised renewed concern within the university community over the safety of students in private hostels, particularly in off-campus locations within Kalgo axis.

FUBK management has extended condolences to the family of the deceased and called for calm as investigations continue.
