On Thursday, June 12, 2026, troops of Sector 2 under Operation FANSAN YAMMA conducted coordinated operations in Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas of Zamfara State, resulting in the neutralisation of two suspected terrorists, the rescue of three kidnapped victims, and the recovery of arms and logistics items.

Military authorities said the operations were carried out during fighting patrols through Birnin Saba, Yanbuki District, and Sabon Garin Daudawa communities.

In Yanbuki District, troops reportedly made contact with suspected terrorists, leading to a firefight in which one fighter was killed. Items recovered at the location included rifles, four loaded magazines, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, military-style clothing, and other materials.

Following the engagement, troops advanced toward Sabon Garin Daudawa, where suspected terrorists were said to have abandoned their camp and fled. The area was subsequently cleared and destroyed by the advancing troops.

In a separate operation along the Shinkafi–Moriki axis on the same day, troops carried out an ambush against another suspected terrorist group. One fighter was neutralised during the encounter. Recovered items included an AK-47 rifle, five magazines, a Baofeng communication radio, two motorcycles, and assorted charms.

Three kidnapped victims were also rescued during the operations. According to the military, the victims are currently receiving care and will be reunited with their families after necessary procedures are completed.

The Nigerian Army said the operations are part of ongoing efforts under Operation FANSAN YAMMA aimed at degrading terrorist and bandit networks operating in Zamfara State and surrounding areas.

A military statement noted that the operations were based on fighting patrols and continued pressure on armed groups operating in identified hotspots across Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas.

Authorities said recovered weapons and equipment were secured at the end of the operations, while clearance missions were carried out in abandoned locations to prevent reoccupation by armed groups.

The army further confirmed that follow-up operations are ongoing to track fleeing suspects and prevent further attacks in surrounding communities.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA has continued to conduct coordinated patrols, ambushes, and clearance missions across northwestern Nigeria as part of wider efforts to disrupt armed criminal networks operating in forested and rural areas.

Military officials stated that the rescued victims are receiving medical attention and support pending reunification with their families.

The operation forms part of sustained security efforts in Zamfara State, where troops have intensified operations in recent months across local government areas including Zurmi and Shinkafi to curb armed attacks and rescue abducted civilians.
