Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on Saturday, June 13, 2026, invaded Kautikari village in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, setting the community’s primary school and Government Day Secondary School on fire, multiple news reports have confirmed.
The attack occurred around 7 p.m., forcing residents to abandon their homes and flee into nearby bushes for safety, according to security sources cited by NewsWatch, The Vanguard, and Daily Trust. A security personnel from the village, who is based in Maiduguri, told The Vanguard: “Yes, I can confirm to you that our village (Kautikari) in the Chibok local government area is under Boko Haram attack. Our people are scampering for safety, even as two schools (primary and day secondary school) are on fire”.
Although no casualties have been reported, the arson marks a significant escalation in the area. A resident told Daily Trust that the terrorists had previously attacked the village months earlier but did not destroy any public or private property. “I wonder why they set ablaze the Primary School and Day Secondary School. Such attacks are unusual,” the resident said.
Kautikari, a village that has endured repeated Boko Haram assaults over the years, now faces the destruction of its educational infrastructure. The incident occurred just weeks after pupils of Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira-Uba were abducted and remained missing for nearly a month without a trace.
As of press time, authorities have not issued an official statement on the incident. All efforts to reach Borno State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, were unsuccessful as his phone line was not reachable. The attack underscores the persistent insecurity in the North‑East and raises fresh concerns about the safety of schools and civilians in the region.
