A 15-year-old girl, identified simply as Chizitere, has been found dead inside a bush in an Imo State community, with her body reportedly missing several parts, in an incident that has sent shockwaves through the neighbourhood and renewed fears over the resurgence of ritual killings in the state. The teenager was earlier reported missing by her family after she failed to return home, prompting a search by community members. Her lifeless body was later discovered in a bush near the community, where it was found with some of her body parts allegedly missing.
Details surrounding the exact location and time of the discovery remain sketchy, as authorities have yet to release an official statement. The Imo State Police Command has not confirmed the incident or provided any information regarding possible arrests. However, a police source, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that a report was filed at a divisional police station and that an investigation has since been launched to ascertain the circumstances leading to the death.
Residents of the affected community have expressed shock and outrage over the gruesome nature of the killing, with many suspecting ritual purposes due to the missing body parts. Some called on the state government and security agencies to intensify efforts to curb the rising wave of violent crime and ritual killings in the area. The incident adds to a growing list of reported cases of missing persons whose bodies are later discovered under suspicious circumstances in parts of the South‑East.
The community awaits official confirmation and further details from security authorities as investigation continues.
